Emotion Regulation Strategies | Five Types
For your clients who are experiencing an emotional stress that may hinder their detox, there are five different ways they may be dealing with the emotional stress. The different emotional regulation strategies are:
- Acceptance
- reappraisal - Low intensity sadness and fear
- rumination
- distraction - Used with high intensity emotions
- suppression
When the emotion evoked was disgust, distraction was chosen regardless of emotional intensity.
